A Thought About Love

IF “love is a universal migraine”
And wine comes in through the mouth,
and beauty in through the eyes
Then “drink to me only with thine eyes”
and I will pledge with mine”
For love would be a hangover
I would gladly suffer

Ben Johnson wrote a poem titled “Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes.” In the poem he says:

If his love would leave a kiss in his cup he would not look for wine.

Why I Write

  And So I Write

I do not write my verse

As a stately scholar, nor as an honored poet

With fancy words nor script

But with words as commonly as I be

If I could write my verse as Byron or Sidney

I would not, for no lord nor sir am I

And I being guilty of false pretense

I neither liken myself to the sun, nor the stars,

But rather to the somber moon

Who’s light is not even it’s own

My words are neither my own

But merely many poets before revitalized

Nor do I write to try to change nor point

The world in my direction and I being a poor cursor

But rather, I write to tell the world

It may never me change

I heard a song that said that,

“One day the music wouldn’t play”

I often wonder, if romance died on that day too

I do not write to pass the time

But because time, it seems to me,

Would stop without it

In the dead of the night when all is well

But my heart is not for it aches,

And writing is my only cure

I lend my words as a star lends it’s light

To the wayward sailor, may they read

And find a safe course to sail tonight

I do not write for those in love

But rather for the disenchanted

may they read and be enchanted

Nor for the nourished heart

But for the malnourished,

may they read and be fulfilled

Nor for the strong of will

But for the weak and broken hearted

may they read and be comforted

Nor do I write for the strong

But for the weak in spirit

May they read and find inner strength

Nor do I write for those who have joy

But for the troubled

May they read and find peace

Nor for the content at heart

But for the young who are lost, the homeless,

And the old who have been forgotten

May they read and find fortitude

Nor do I write for fortune or fame

But I write to keep romance alive

This burning fire in my breast

Will not let me rest

You see I must write

Else this fire in me will die
